The company developed its proprietary systematic position models with a focus on capturing value from trending futures markets. The systematic approach can be applied to a specific futures contract to address a hedging need, or can be applied to a portfolio of equity and commodity futures contracts to achieve diversification around traditional asset classes. Our goal is to generate higher returns while lowering risks.
Steve Murphy is the founding member and owner of Murphy & Company. Mr. Murphy developed the systematic position models which are in use by Murphy & Company. In addition, Mr. Murphy developed the proprietary Overbought vs Oversold indicators utilized in The Trend Beacon, Murphy & Company’s weekly commentary on select natural resource markets.
Prior to starting Murphy & Company, Mr. Murphy’s extensive experience in the commodities sector includes positions with Arizona Public Service Company, Entergy Power Marketing Corp, and Chevron Corporation. His accomplishments include the startup of energy trading desks in the US and UK, the startup of financial structuring desks in the regulated and unregulated US electricity sector, and the development and installation of risk management governance structures. He has actively managed portfolios in the energy, metals and agricultural sectors.
Mr. Murphy graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA with a BSChE and from Rice University in Houston, TX with a MBA. He holds FINRA Series 3 and Series 30 registrations. Murphy & Company is a registered Commodity Trading Advisor.
